Canciller Miguel Vargas preside lanzamiento discos para promover merengue

Santo Domingo. – El canciller Miguel Vargas encabezó la presentación de “Cantos dominicanos, himnos y merengues corales” y “Merengues para el mundo”, dos producciones musicales dirigidas a enaltecer y promover la música autóctona a través de las misiones diplomáticas dominicanas repartidas por el mundo.
“Al hacerlo no solo promocionamos nuestro país, sino que también facilitamos la comprensión de nuestros valores y riquezas culturales con raigambre profunda en nuestra historia”, resaltó el ministro de Exteriores sobre estos discos, que serán el telón musical de los actos oficiales que realicen las embajadas y consulados dominicanos.
El alto diplomático señaló la importancia que su gestión al frente del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (Mirex) le otorga a la diplomacia cultural, al considerarla como un potente vehículo “para relacionarse y abrir oportunidades comerciales”, lo cual, entre otros hitos, ha permitido al merengue dos importantes reconocimientos.
Al respecto, evocó que la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (Unesco) designó a este ritmo dominicano como “Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad”, en el año 2016, mientras que, en 2018, la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) lo declaró “Patrimonio Cultural de las Américas”.
Sobre las producciones
Merengues para el mundo es una compilación de piezas representativas, interpretadas por el Cuerpo Orquestal del Mirex, dirigido por Ray Miguel Hernández, tanto en versiones instrumentales tradicionales como nuevas.
En tanto que Cantos dominicanos, himnos y merengues corales, reúne himnos representativos del país, interpretados por el Cuerpo Coral del Mirex, bajo la dirección artística de Elizabeth Crooke, encargada de Difusión Cultural de la Dirección de Diplomacia Especializada.
Ambas son obras que “desnudan el alma popular con un sabor a patria inconfundible”, resumió el ministro de Exteriores dominicano.
De este modo, el Mirex da cumplimiento al decreto 200-18, emitido por el presidente Danilo Medina, a sugerencia del canciller Vargas, que dispone la implementación de una política de difusión cultural a través del Servicio Exterior, teniendo como eje central el merengue.
Reconocimientos
Miguel Vargas y la embajadora María de los Ángeles García de Vargas entregaron reconocimientos al compositor Víctor Víctor, asesor cultural de la Presidencia de la República, y al cantautor y embajador dominicano ante la Unesco, José Antonio Rodríguez (representado en el acto por su hijo de igual nombre), autores de la canción Somos amantes de la paz, en ocasión del 34° aniversario de esta laureada composición que ha recorrido el mundo.
Asimismo, fue homenajeado el músico, compositor y embajador adscrito para Asuntos Culturales, Rafael Solano, por los más de cincuenta años de su emblemática canción Por amor.
Estos artistas recibieron ejemplares de los discos presentados por el Mirex, los cuales también fueron distribuidos entre embajadores dominicanos y diplomáticos extranjeros presentes en el acto realizado en el Centro de Convenciones de la institución
