Falleció el fundador del Banco Popular Alejandro Grullon

El Horizonte, Santo Domingo RD.- Falleció este martes 15 el fundador del Banco Popular Dominicano y presidente ad vitam del consejo de Administración de esa entidad bancaria, Alejandro Grullón.

Grullón, de 91 años, fue además el fundador de la Asociación Cibao de Ahorros y Préstamos para la Vivienda y la Compañía Financiera para el Desarrollo.

En los últimos 50 años, desempeñó importantes roles en diversas comisiones de empresarios notables, creadas para afrontar los difíciles retos del país. Pero además se ha destacado en la sociedad como un ciudadano ejemplar, que ha impulsado obras filantrópicas y de bienestar social, y que ha sido un modelo de inspiración para varias generaciones de banqueros y emprendedores del país, hombres y mujeres forjados en las mejores prácticas financieras y al amparo del compromiso ético de su profesión.

Alejandro E. Grullón E. nació el 3 de abril 1929 en Santiago de los Caballeros y estaba casado con Doña Melva Segura de Grullón.

Sus aportes a la sociedad han ido más allá del mundo de las finanzas, convirtiéndose en un verdadero motor de desarrollo de las capacidades de nuestro país.

Inicialmente ligado a la producción maderera y agrícola, de propiedad familiar, pronto se hizo consciente de las necesidades de servicios financieros más diversificados y accesibles para jóvenes empresarios como él.

Banco Popular abrió sus puertas al público el 2 de enero de 1964 y desde sus inicios se centró en ofrecer servicios a las pequeñas industrias, al sector rural, así como la apertura de cuentas de ahorro y corrientes con bajos depósitos. Esto significó un aumento en el acceso a los servicios financieros de la población dominicana y la consecuente apertura de vías de crecimiento y progreso económicos.
