Canciller Miguel Vargas pondera aportes beisbolistas dominicanos a imagen nacional

Minneapolis, Minnesota, EE. UU.- El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Miguel Vargas, ponderó los aportes positivos de los beisbolistas dominicanos a la imagen internacional de República Dominicana.
El canciller lanzó este fin de semana la primera bola en un partido en el que los Reales de Kansas City se impusieron 12-5 frente a los Mellizos de Minnesota, líderes de la División Central de la Liga Americana, en la actual campaña de las Grandes Ligas de Beisbol de Estados Unidos (EE. UU.)
Previo al juego, celebrado en el estadio Target Field, de la ciudad de Minneapolis, el ministro se reunió con los jugadores dominicanos de los Mellizos a quienes ofreció un almuerzo.
Miguel Vargas afirmó que, cual destacados embajadores, los beisbolistas criollos “proyectan valores fundamentales de nuestra sociedad tales como el trabajo honesto, la perseverancia y el amor al lar nativo”.
El canciller les exhortó a continuar con su ejemplo de buena ciudadanía “para que, de esa manera, sigan fortaleciendo la imagen de la República Dominicana”.
De su lado, el estelar Nelson Cruz expresó que tanto él como sus compatriotas en las Grandes Ligas estuvieron muy preocupados hace unos meses por lo que tildó como una “campaña contra el turismo de Republica dominicana”.
El líder en jonrones de los Mellizos aseguró que, cada vez que tuvo oportunidad de abordar el tema, siempre ponderó “la seguridad imperante en República Dominicana como destino turístico”.
El ministro Vargas hizo un recorrido por el estadio Target Field, y conversó con el dueño del equipo, dueño Jim Pohlad; el presidente, Dave St. Peter; y el manager, Rocco Baldelli.
El alto funcionario también departió amigablemente con el cubano Tony Oliva, una vieja gloria del Beisbol quien conoce muy bien Republica Dominicana. El exjardinero compartió gratas anécdotas sobre su participación en la pelota invernal dominicana.
Este domingo, el canciller felicitó a Nelson Cruz por lograr su jonrón 40 de la presente temporada, y el 400, de su carrera en Grandes Ligas.
Además de Cruz, la plantilla de los Mellizos incluye a los dominicanos Miguel Sanó, Jorge Polanco y Michael Pineda. A su vez, forman parte de los Reales de Kansas City: Adalberto Mondesí, Randy Rosario, y Erick Mejía.
