Al menos 28 personas murieron y más de 40 resultaron heridas en los combates librados el lunes en el sur de Trípoli entre las milicias afines al gobierno reconocido por la ONU (GNA) y las fuerzas del mariscal Jalifa Hafter, hombre fuerte del país, informaron a Efe fuentes médicas.
Entre las víctimas hay siete milicianos del GNA, muertos en duros combates librados en la zona rural de Al Sabaa, al sur del antiguo aeropuerto internacional de Trípoli, la posición del alto valor estratégico que ambos contendientes se disputan, detallaron las fuentes.
Además, otros seis milicianos del gobierno impuesto por la ONU en Trípoli debieron ser atendidos por diferentes heridas.
Los combates permitieron al GNA recuperar la zona del campo de Al Yarmuk, en el sur de la capital, tras un intenso combate con las fuerzas bajo el mando del mariscal Jalifa Hafter, establecidas en las localidades vecinas de Aydabiya y Terhouna.
“Las operación sigue aún en marcha. Las fuerzas del GNA avanzan por el eje de Al Hira, que está bajo su control total, en dirección a (la localidad de) Al Sabaa” para unirse allí a la Brigada “166”, que domina ya varios puntos “estratégicos” en el eje suroeste, explicó a Efe el lunes un portavoz de las milicias.
El mariscal, que tutela el gobierno en Tobruk, inició el cerco a Trípoli el pasado 4 de abril, durante la visita oficial del secretario general de la ONU en Libia, Antonio Guterres, en la capital, en un claro mensaje a la comunidad internacional.
En las casi tres semanas de combates han muerto más de 270 personas, mientras que cerca de 1.300 resultaron heridas y más de 30.000 se han visto obligadas a desplazarse de forma interna, informó ayer la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).
Los combates han afectado igualmente a los miles de migrantes que están confinados en centros de detención de Trípoli y a los que se intenta trasladar a lugares más seguros en el norte de la ciudad.
Libia es un estado fallido, víctima del caos y la guerra civil, desde que en marzo de 2011 la OTAN contribuyera militarmente a la victoria de los diferentes grupos rebeldes sobre la larga dictadura del depuesto Muamar al Gadafi (1969-2011).
Desde 2014 tiene dos gobiernos principales, uno impuesto por Naciones Unidas tras su fracasado plan de paz, y que apenas domina la capital, y otro liderado por el mariscal Hafter en la ciudad de Tobruk que controla en torno al 70 por ciento del territorio nacional.
A ellos se suma la poderosa ciudad-estado de Misrata, enemiga de Hafter, y decenas de milicias y de mafias dedicadas al contrabando de armas, personas, gasolina y otros productos que son el verdadero motor de su destruida economía.
